Call for Volunteers – Bhil Academy for Tribal Children, Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh
The Bhil Academy is an English-medium boarding school for tribal children in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh. The school, free for all children, caters to the poorest of the poor kids in this region, and gives the children a high quality education and exposure to new opportunities. The school has 350 children from LKG to 9th standard (kids ages 5 years old to 14/15).
While we have a great team of full-time local teachers, we think its important for the kids to be exposed to different outlooks, different English accents and different styles of critical thinking. We’re looking for volunteers to come help us teach the kids, especially to get them caught up for their exams in March. Any amount of time would be great, from one week to one year. We need people who are interested in filling in the gaps in various regular classes (this would be for the longer term volunteers) but especially people who would be interested in helping the kids after school, structuring study time, doing projects with the kids and tutoring individuals who are having a difficult time.
No prior teaching experience is required, just a desire to work with kids and a working knowledge of English. We can provide all accommodation on the campus of the school. Jhabua is tribal farming community in the heart of rural India, and while there aren’t many luxuries, you can find most things you need in the local market, hang out with an eclectic group of international and local staff, and can experience the real India.
